Where were you?

For this blog post, I decided to write a poem because this unit is about poetry. This poem is about both mysterious and tells of a killer.

Where were you?

Tell me you don't,

Understand how it happened,

Because when it groaned,

Where were you?

When it grappled,

When it brawled,

When it wrestled

Tell me you don't

Hear it anymore

Because when it cried

Where were you?

When it weeped

When it whimpered

When it wailed

Tell me you don't

Notice its blue skin

Because when it froze

Where were you?

When it gasped

When it puffed

When it wheezed

Tell me you don't

Please

Tell me you don't

Because when he suffocated

Where were you?

Summary of the poem

This poem about a mother (the speaker) interrogating a killer after her son was drowned. The killer here is someone that she is close to. I decided to do someone that she is close to because it displays the pleading in the poem. When the speaker says ' tell me you don't ' at the beginning of each stanza, it displays her unbelief and that she is desperate because she doesn't want it to be true, despite the clear evidence that was given to her.

I use repetition and alliteration to emphasise on a certain points and rhythm to enhance the ideas of the poem. The poem is filled with alliteration, repetition, rhythm and rhetorical questions in each stanza because I'm trying to get the reader to understand the pleading of the poem. The tone of the speaker displays desperation, unbelief and pleading.
